William T. "W.T." Buchanan III, age 81, of the Thompson Valley Community in Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va. Born March 9, 1931 in Thompson Valley, Va., he was a son of the late William Thompson Buchanan Jr. and Martha Alice Thompson Buchanan. He was a lifelong resident of Thompson Valley where he worked as a farmer all his working life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Yates Buchanan and a grandson, Ralph Thomas Cregger. He is survived by three children, Carol Sue Hackworth of Thompson Valley, Va., Larry W. Buchanan of the home, and John Buchanan of Fort Campbell, Ky.; one sister, Mary Anne Puckett, and two brothers, George Walter Buchanan and Stuart Winston Buchanan, all of Thompson Valley, Va.; five grandchildren, James W. Cregger, Christopher B. Hackworth and wife, Sarah, Tarah N. Lawson and husband, Frankie, all of Thompson Valley, Va., J. Machelle Penley and husband, Robert, of North Carolina, Christopher Justin Johnson of Damascus, Md.; seven great-grandchildren, Ciarah Hackworth, Emily Lawson, Hannah Lawson, C.D. Penley, Cassie Penley, Chandler Penley, and R. J. Penley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Lawrence Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Barry Powers, Jon Lester, Bryan Newberry, John Lawson, Greg Buchanan, and Jerry Jackson.
