Bluefield, WV - Charlotte, NC - William Kendrick "Bill" Aker age 88 of Bluefield, WV died at the home of his son Saturday January 31, 2026 in Charlotte surrounded by family. Born in Leeville, TN he was a son of the late Aaron Bruce Aker and Hazel Gilbert Aker. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from the City of Bluefield in 2012 after 26 years of service. He served in the Virginia National Guard where he was also a Paratrooper.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years Dixie Lee Baldwin Aker; a son Paul W. Aker (Diana) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Courtney Reid (Jacob) of Vass, NC and Jennifer Aker of Locust, NC; great grandchildren; Adaline Rimbey of Vass, NC, Briana Grisom (Coby) of Locust, NC, Dalton and Wyatt Burchett also of Locust, NC; Great-great grandchildren Eden and Lilah Grisom of Locust, NC and a daughter LeAnn Aker.

Funeral services will be conducted at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel Friday January 20, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the service hour. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the WV Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council.
