BLUEFIELD, Va. - Vernon G. "V. G." Altizer, II, age 41, of Bluefield, Va., peacefully passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born January 18, 1969 at Bluefield, W.Va. and was the son of Vernon G. Altizer, I and Sheila Altizer of Bluefield, Va.. V.G. was the owner and operator of Shoe Repair Plus and worked for A & A Quality Parts. He was a 1987 Graduate of Graham High School and attended both Southwest Virginia Community College and Bluefield State College. V.G. was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clayton and Geneva Blankenship Stevenson; his paternal grandparents, Noah Lyndsey Altizer and Ozella Nelson Altizer. Survivors in addition to his mom and dad, include special companion, Brenda Hammond of Bluefield, Va.; one sister, Tara Crawford, and husband, Eric of Bluefield, W.Va.; special aunt, Cookie Hayes of Bluefield, Va.; special nephew and niece, Cody and Katy Crawford; special little guy, Zac Lewis; and a host of loving family members and great friends. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, where a funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. with Brandon Hay and the Reverend Darrell Long officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Darien Musick, Connie Fox, Roger Lee Robinett, Matt Beck, Darrin Coe, and Robbie Rice. Cody Crawford will serve as honorary pallbearer.
