North Tazewell - Thomas Joseph McDonough, 92, of North Tazewell VA passed away peacefully in his sleep May 9, 2026 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Tazewell in VA. 
 A native of Boston, MA he was born May 3, 1934 to John and Delia McDonough and was the youngest of their five children. He met his wife Columbia (Jones) while serving in the US Army in Washington DC in 1958 and they married in August of 1959. Together Tom and Columbia reared four children between Massachusetts and West Virginia— Theresa, Janet, Julie and John. Tom worked as a plumber/pipe fitter, Co-owner of Mercer Mechanical Contracting and owned Virginia Hardware in Princeton, WV. His intelligence and experience earned him the respect of all the local plumbing and HVAC professionals who often sought his advice.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Delia, his older brother

Monsignor John McDonough, his three sisters Mary Tarpey, Barbara Allen and Helen McDonough. Additionally, his oldest daughter Theresa Chafin preceded him in death. 
 He is survived by his wife Columbia of North Tazewell, his daughters Janet McDonagh (Michael) and Julie Hart (Ron) as well as his son Fr. John McDonough and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Friday, May 15th at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM and conclude with interment at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, WV.
