Sylvia Rose Burton


Sylvia Rose Burton, 87, of Clairmont Hills, Princeton, died peacefully, Sunday, September 8, 2019 at her residence with her family by her side. Born, January 6, 1932, in Keystone, WV, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mattie Bell Bruce.
Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she worked as a Secretary. She also worked as an administrative assistant United Piece Dye Works. Later in life, she spent several years providing Day Care in her home for many local children. Sylvia also worked for her son, Terry, helping him in his numerous business adventures.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Burton, daughter-in-law, Judy Rose, step-son, Thomas Burton (Sherry), and sisters, Ruth Snow, Elsie Peraldo and Louise Bruce.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Terry L. Rose and wife Rhonda of Princeton; Raymond Bruce Rose of Bluefield. Step-son, John Burton (Pam). Three grandchildren, Michael Rose (Jessica) of Rock, Kristy Rose Miller (Darryl) of Bluefield, Dr. Terra Rose (Alan Cook) of Chapel Hill, NC. Four great-grandchildren, Tanner Rose, Hunter Honaker, Margot Cook and Ethan Cook;
Close friend and caregiver, Wanda Lusk.
Services to celebrate the life of Sylvia will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday in the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton, WV with Father Sebastian Devasya as the celebrant and Deacon Don Hammond. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Sylvia loved our children as her own. When my own mother died when I was just 29, I don’t know what I would have done without her. Such a special, caring example of Gods love💕

It was sad to read of Sylvia’s passing. She was a sweet and caring lady and will be missed by many. Love and prayers to her family. She loved y’all dearly.

Slyvia always had plenty of stories to tell from her childhood on up, and I loved to hear them. When her health permitted she was always cooking or baking a pie for her family. She had plenty of wisdom to give. She will be sadly missed, thanks for the wonderful memories.
