PETERSTOWN, WV — Steve Miller, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Peterstown, WV on July 15, 2021. Born in Minden, WV on October 23, 1934, he was the son of Paul and Elizabeth Cafego Miller, both immigrants from Europe.

Steve graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV where he excelled in all sports. He was a graduate of Concord University with a B.S. in Biology and earned an M.S. degree in Administration and Education from Radford University. At Concord, he excelled in football, lettering all four years of his college career and lettering in basketball one year. He was an outstanding football player, playing on offense and defense. He taught and coached at Union High School, Peterstown High School and Greenville Junior High School. He served as principal at Rich Creek Elementary School, Rich Creek, VA, as principal at Peterstown High School and as principal at the Monroe County Vocational Technical Center. He also served in the US Military in the EOD Special Forces.

Steve also served his community in many other ways. He served on the Board of the Red Sulphur PSD, was Director of the Beckley Farmers Market and was a lifelong member of the Peterstown Ruritan club, assisting in many community projects over the years. He was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.

Steve was also an expert gardener and loved gardening and agriculture. He and his wife operated the Peterstown Greenhouse for over twenty years. They shared a love of growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. He was also devoted to family and loved having his yearly "fireworks show" and get-together for friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary June Mandeville Miller of the home; brother Tom Miller of Cincinnati, OH; children Bobbie Tuggle and husband Bill of Peterstown; Dr. Stephen Miller and wife Janet of Peterstown; grandchildren Mitch Tuggle and wife Ashley of Charleston, WV; Dr. Tanner Tuggle of Erie, PA; Brad Miller and wife Chelsea of Christiansburg, VA; great grandchildren Graydon, Hattie Mae and Zeb Tuggle of Charleston and Lanie, Delia and Wade Miller of Christiansburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Paul, Johnny, George, Frank, Joey and sister Elizabeth Miller Riser.

The family would like to extend special thanks to neighbor Marvin Mooney who has been a true blessing to us all. Also, special thanks to caregivers Michelle Peck, Jill Dunn, Kristy Painter, Tina Griffith and Brenda Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Dave Spencer and Pastor John Peña officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA, with Jim Gore, Scott Gore, Curtis Gore, Marvin Mooney, Fred Ferguson, and Mason Chinault serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church.
