Tazewell, VA - Robert Grant Viney, Sr., 80, of Tazewell, VA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. Born on December 2, 1945, in Tazewell, Virginia, Robert lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and faithful service to his country.

Robert attended Tazewell County High School in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was united in marriage on December 29, 1967, to Lillian LaFaye Johnson Viney, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage before her passing in 2022. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and commitment.

Mr. Viney proudly joined the United States Army in August 1965, earning the rank of Specialist 4th Class. During his service, he was stationed in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1968, he returned home to Tazewell and began what would become a 40-year career with the Appalachian Power Company. Robert was a dedicated lineman with a strong work ethic who rose through the ranks to become a Master Electrician before retiring. He took great pride in providing for his family through his work.

Robert cherished his family. He is survived by his three loving and dedicated children: Robert Grant Viney, Jr. (Kelly), Lavonne Evette Viney, and Angela Mae Viney Savage (Michael); and six beloved grandchildren, Imani, Deja, Robert III, Daryle Jr., Michael, and Chloe, and, two great grandchildren, Rose and Kailei, who all brought him immense joy and pride.

He is also survived by his siblings, Fannie Ellen Cecil and Steve A. Viney and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Viney, and his siblings, William Walker Viney (Bookie), Nannie Elizabeth Hawkins, Harvey Oscar Viney, and Anita A. Viney.

Robert's legacy lives on through the family he nurtured and the values he instilled—integrity, perseverance, and love of home.

A memorial service honoring his life and burial will be held on February 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Virginia.
