Greensboro, NC - Robert David Gillespie passed away at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC on Friday, June 19, 2026, after a brief illness.

David was born September 9, 1952 in Bluefield, WV and raised in Bluefield, VA to the late Douglas B. Gillespie and the late Joann M. Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn B. Gillespie; son, Jason R. Gillespie (Lindsay); daughter, Meredith I. G. Lavasque (William); grandchildren; Keegan Gillespie, Ian Gillespie, and Lillian Lavasque all of Greensboro, NC; brother Dr. Douglas B. Gillespie, Jr. (Margot) of Terre Haute, IN. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Angela J. Gillespie.

David was passionate about golf and was a very good player. He met his wife on the golf course, trying to teach her how to play. His home course in Bluefield, VA was Richwood Golf Club, where he competed in many tournaments and won the Club Championship in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1982, 1987 and 1991.

Funeral arrangements: Visitation will begin at Forbis & Dick on North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Wednesday, June 24th will begin at 10:00am and the service will begin at 11:00am, with graveside services at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
