Phyllis Jean Martin
PRINCETON - Phyllis Jean Martin, 90, of Princeton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 11, 2019. Born December 26, 1928 in Matoaka, she was the daughter of the late Roy L. Cook and Goldie Wilkinson Cook.
Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Matoaka High School. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, her family and her country.
Mrs. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School, served on numerous committees, and helped with the Sounds of Conviction musical youth group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. B.J. (Bill) Martin; her daughter, Paulette Martin-Jones; her sister, Joan Byrd; and her brothers, Lee Cook and Tom Cook.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Martin and his wife Cindy of Morgantown and Dr. Kevin Martin and his wife Jenny of Princeton; one son-in-law, Adrian Jones of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Karen Fetty and her husband John, Tara Martin Wilson and her husband Jeff, Bryan Martin, and Anna Martin Barker and her husband Travis; five great-grandchildren, J.T. Fetty, Tyler Fetty, Trey McConnell, Lexi Carr, and Chance Barker; numerous nieces and nephews, including John Byrd; and her loving caregivers at Christian Care, Karen, Renae, Tina and Wendi.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Princeton with Pastor Andrew Maynor and Rev. David Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1116 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24740.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until service hour at the First Baptist Church in Princeton.
