Peggy Ann Hutchinson Sutphin Obituary

Peggy Ann Hutchinson Sutphin of Rocky Gap, Virginia died Saturday morning March 27, 2021. She was born in the Rocky Gap Community of Bland County, Virginia on July 5, 1937, the late daughter of Arnold Scott and Emily Pauline Shrader Hutchinson. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her late husband, Arlie June Sutphin and sister, Bobbie Jo Tolbert.

Peggy was a charter member of Rocky Gap Chapter #154 of the Eastern Star. She was the President and valedictorian of her graduating class of 1954 at Rocky Gap High School. She attended Wytheville Community College from 1992 to 1994, graduating with an Associate's Degree in accounting and she attended Bluefield College from 1994 to 1996, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting.

Over the years she was employed by Bailey Lumber Company, The Bland Correctional Center, one of the founders of General Injectables & Vaccines and was the co-founder and Chairwoman of the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre in Wytheville, Virginia.

Peggy was a dear friend to many. She loved life, loved a good laugh, and loved Virginia Tech football and basketball. Her benevolence was practiced in life and work as evidenced by the many testimonies shared at the news of her passing. Wytheville, Virginia is better known today because of her work and contributions made through Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre with the thousands of people that visit its productions each year. She was so kind to everyone, had a special place in her heart for children and especially loved her little dog Oscar and her many cats including Fat Cat and Covie.

Peggy is survived by her son, Charles Patrick Sutphin of Rocky Gap, VA; her granddaughter, Eden Speer; her special friends, Janett Weddle, Ruth Fisher, Kay Thompson, George Bailey; her niece, Jessica DeHart; her nephews, Scott DeHart, Richard F DeHart Jr., Chris DeHart. Many extended family & close friends also survive.

Due to the regulations & restrictions of COVID 19, a private funeral service will be held for her family & closest friends, with interment to follow in the Temple Hill cemetery in Bland VA. All who attend the private service are required to wear facial covering & practice social distancing. Please remember that a kind word or a warm smile can be as comforting to the family as a hug or a handshake during these difficult times. The family wishes all to know that a celebration of her life will be announced at a later date, so all who knew and loved Peggy can attend and pay their respects to her and her family.
