Peery L. Woosley, age 93, of Richlands, VA passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, following a lengthy illness.

Peery was born in Peapatch, VA on January 6, 1929, and was the son of the late Lucian Woosley and Maude Sparks Woosley. After graduating high school, he worked as coal miner for Jewell Ridge Coal Company and Pittston Coal Company, for 41 years. He was the financial secretary of the UMWA Local #7327. He was a 57-year resident of Richlands after moving from Jewell Ridge, Virginia. He served as a magistrate from 1972 to 1979, for the 29th Judicial District of Virginia; and was a 30-year member of the Richlands Volunteer Rescue Squad. Peery was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Ruby Childress Woosley; and two brothers, Thomas L. Woosley and Johnny R. Woosley; and sisters-in-law, Greta Woosley, Eva Woosley, and Jacqueline Burke.

Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His daughters: Brenda Sue Hillman of Rosedale, VA; Janet Woosley and husband, Jim Thompson of Cedar Bluff, VA. Two grandchildren: Lucy Redmond and husband, Daniel of Knoxville, TN; Joseph Hillman and wife, Crystal of Honaker, VA. A special great-grandson, Alex Hillman. Nephew, Jody Woosley; niece, Connie Burke; great-nephew, Alex Woosley and great niece, Rachel Burke.

A private graveside service for Peery L. Woosley will be conducted at 1:00 pm, on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum #4 in Claypool Hill, VA, with Rev. Delmar Somoskey officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry; P. O. Box 523; Richlands, VA 24641.
