Patten Ray Adams, 70, of Bluefield, formerly of Welch, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Bluefield Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born May 12, 1940 near War, he was the son of the late John Burley Adams and Della May Moore Adams. He was a former foundry worker in Ohio, and attended the Salvation Army in Bluefield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Andy, Eddie and Fred Adams; and a sister, Martha Kestner. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ethel Mitchell Adams of the home; four sons, Raymond Adams and Douglas Adams, both of Coalwood, Billy Adams of Bluefield, and Johnny Adams of Sidney, Ohio; four daughters, Ruth Ann Adams of Welch, Linda Adams of Sidney, Ohio, and Lillian Milam and Dana Milam, both of Bluefield; two brothers, Johnny Adams of Charleston and Gene Adams of Welch; four sisters, Viola Richards of Sidney, Ohio, Goldie Henderson of Piqua, Ohio, Mary Conormon Stanley of War, and Bobbie Rose of Coalwood; mother-in-law, Lilly Graham of Bluefield; and special companion, his pet dog “Little Bit.” Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Douglas Mortuary Chapel in Welch with Captain Jerry Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Tom Sparks Cemetery, Bradshaw Mt. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
