Moneta, VA - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia J. Anziulewicz, age 88, of Moneta, Virginia, who passed away on Tuesday, December 23, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital following a long period of declining health.

Patricia was born on December 28, 1936, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, to the late Walter and Ann Petrash. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Anziulewicz, M.D., with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband and parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Sonia Marshall, and her brother, Walter Petrash, Jr.

She is survived by her children: Charles Anziulewicz of Charleston, West Virginia; Ann and Ignacio Cardenas, M.D., of Vienna, West Virginia; Sharon Layman of Roanoke, Virginia; and Matthew Anziulewicz of Moneta, Virginia.

Patricia was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren whom she adored: Madison Irwin and Christopher Irwin, M.D., of San Antonio, Texas; Cameron and Katherine Cardenas of Louisville, Kentucky; Tyler Cardenas of Vienna, West Virginia; Luke Cardenas of Charlotte, North Carolina; John Michael King and his husband, Bill Rydzewski of Washington, D.C.; and Emma Layman of Vinton, Virginia and Garrett Layman of Roanoke, Virginia. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Henry Irwin, Scarlett Irwin and Josephine Cardenas.

Patricia graduated from Nanticoke High School and Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She married John Anziulewicz on June 20, 1957. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Patricia always stayed active throughout her life. In the 1960's she volunteered with the Catholic charity FISH (Friends in Serving Humanity). By the early 1970's she was taking college courses in computer programming, and learning ancient languages like COBOL. In the late 1970s, she organized Bluefield, West Virginia's first chapter of NOW (National Organization for Women). Patricia earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Bluefield State College in 1978. After passing the CPA exam in 1980, she worked alongside John in his medical practice, Bluefield Radiology Inc., in Bluefield, West Virginia.

In the early 1980s, Patricia and John moved to their new home on Smith Mountain Lake, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Patricia formed my lasting friendships in the community and was involved in local organizations. She served on the board of the Bedford Christian Free Clinic, was Treasurer of the Smith Mountain Lake Newcomers, and was a member of the Women's Investment Network (WIN). She was also active in her Village East community and cherished her participation in the neighborhood BUNCO group and other social circles.

Patricia was a faithful member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Bedford, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in her memory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. On Saturday, January 24, 2025 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, with Father Sal Anonuevo officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Church.
