Mossie Cooper Simpson Obituary

North Tazewell, VA - Mossie Cooper Simpson, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025 — the birthday of her beloved husband, Robert — a fitting day for their hearts to be reunited. Surrounded by her family, she passed at her son's home in North Tazewell, Virginia, wrapped in the love of those who cherished her.
She was born at home in Bledsoe, Kentucky, on February 5, 1944, a daughter of Andrew Cooper and Ella Cooper Tolliver, and stepdaughter of Elden Tolliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simpson; her son, Hershel Simpson; her grandson, Anthony Simpson; her stepdaughter, Tressie Turner; along with her parents and stepfather.
Mossie was a woman of gentle spirit and quiet strength. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome — and no one ever left hungry. She loved deeply and lived her life with grace, humility, and steady faith. Her kindness was unwavering, her listening ear patient, and her love unconditional. Those blessed to know her will forever remember the peace, comfort, and sweetness of her presence.
She was a faithful member of Mountain View Church of Christ for 47 years, where she loved worshiping, studying God's Word, and spending time with her church family.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin (Robert) Kinder, and her son, Randy (Becky) Simpson. Mossie leaves behind her grandchildren: Mark Huffman, Cathleen Evans, and Cerria Dale. She is also blessed with great-grandchildren: Logan, Blake, Talen, Kaydence, Jax, Thomas, and Kylie — each bringing joy, laughter, and light into her days. She is survived as well by her siblings:
Garfield Cooper, Verline Simpson, Thelma Conner, Lynn Robinson, George Tolliver, and Dena Anderson.
Mossie was especially blessed to have her daughter and son always nearby, lovingly devoted to her care. She also deeply cherished the friendship of her special friend, Gwenda Anderson.
Her family and friends will miss her dearly but find comfort knowing she rests with loved ones and in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Mercer Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Burial will be at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Mark Huffman, Raymond Simpson, Robert Simpson, Michael Simpson, Alan Simpson, Darren Simpson, and Doug Simpson will serve as pallbearers. Her great grandchildren will walk behind her. Honorary pallbearers will be Waldo Simpson, Duane Simpson, and Theo (Jr.) Witt.
