North Tazewell, VA - Mildred Marie Wolfe McClanahan, age 82, of the Dryfork community of North Tazewell, VA, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 16, 1943, in Amonate, VA, she was a daughter of the late Douglas Wolfe and Mary C. Wolfe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John E. "Jay" McClanahan; brother, John Wolfe, Jr.; son-in-law, Frank Stepp, Jr.

Mildred will always be remembered as a beautiful person with a caring heart. Mildred became the first director of Home Health at Tazewell Community Hospital, which was her home for many years. She touched so many lives throughout her career as a nurse—the nursing profession will be missing an angel on earth. After retiring from a fulfilling career, Mamaw enjoyed spending time with family and friends who were always welcome at her home.

Left to carry her memory forward are her two daughters, Beverly Vasquez and husband Marco and Robin Stepp; two sons, James "Jimmy" McClanahan and John Phillip McClanahan and wife Lisa; two sisters, Darlene Crouse and Mary Melvin and husband Dennis; one brother, Terry Wolfe and wife Marnell; grandchildren, Santana Masian and husband Rick, Heather Whitt and husband John, Hunter Lockhart and fiancé Rylee Brady, Zachary Vasquez and wife Alex, Ethan McClanahan and wife Kaitlyn, Bethany McClanahan, Jacob Mann and Zachary Mann; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ryleigh Chambers, Hannah and Jordan Whitt, Anthony and Julie McClanahan, and Cannon and Kipp Stasheen. Several nieces, nephews, and special friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM with Pastor Bill Breeding officiating. The committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home by 10:30 AM for the procession. Hunter Lockhart, Ethan McClanahan, Zachary Vasquez, Gavin Chambers, Jordan Whitt, and Rick Masian will serve as pallbearers with George Jeffery, Todd Wills, Chris Stevens, Johnny Forehand, Ronnie Shrader, Delnor Lockhart, and Dr. Faisal Chaudhry as honorary bearers.
