Mary Virginia Harris
Mary Virginia Harris, 89, of Pine Grove Road, Lerona, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Nelson's Personal Care Home on the Glenwood Road.
Born March 4, 1930, in Springton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Grady Tilman Lamb, Sr. and Susie Collins Lamb.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. Mary loved the Lord and her family. Mary was a very faithful member of the Lerona United Methodist Church. She and her husband Ambrose, along with others, were instrumental, in making apple butter. Mary ran the kitchen for Vacation Bible School making sure refreshments were ready for the children attending.
She enjoyed reading her Bible, her daily devotions, her gardening, her quilting, her flowers and feeding the humming birds.
She retired from Maidenform Corp. with 18 1/2 years service. Mary also worked and retired from the Mercer County School System as a cook at Sun Valley Elementary School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Ambrose Harris, Jr. and three brothers, Grady Lamb, Jr., Ira Lamb and Thomas Lamb.
Left to cherish her memory, are her loving and devoted children: John Harris; Jill Keaton and husband Jimmy; June Hawkey and husband Mark, all of Lerona. Two grandsons: Patrick Harris and wife Stephanie of Marie, WV; Cody Keaton and wife Marie of Lerona. One granddaughter, Kelly Bennett of Lerona. Three great-grandchildren: Sarah and Evan Bennett and Terrance Keaton. Two sisters: Mettie Foley of Lerona; Paula and Carl Crowder of Reidsville, NC. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family.
Services celebrating the life of Mary Harris will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 19, 2019 from the Lerona United Methodist Church with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, from 12:00 Noon until the service hour at the church.

The Harris family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll always remember her and Ambrose coming to our house with produce from the garden. Also, spending time with her at our family reunions that was held at her church.... Until we meet again my sweet cousin!
