Mary Charlton
On Thursday, November 14, 2019, an angel of the Lord escorted the spirit of our precious jewel, Mary Charlton Phillips (Peaches) back to God. Mary was born August 23, 1932, in Bluefield, WV to the late William Edward and Mary Ella (Johnson) Amaker.
At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ and became a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church. Mary was a graduate of the first class of Park Central High School in Bluefield, WV. She was also an avid member of a local social Women's club, The Jolly 12. She was employed as a cook for over 25 years at the Bluefield Country Club in Bluefield, WV and she was also employed as a cook for the Tierney and Shott families for many years. She was a member of St. Matthews United Holy Church where she served as a Deaconess and member of the Sunday School and Women's Bible Study. She was the past President of the Mission and a former choir member.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Jessie Phillips and two sons, Robert Morton and Larry Morton; three brothers, Bobby, Billy, and Donald Amaker and two sisters, Jeanette Amaker and Glenda Kelker.
Loved ones left to cherish her memories include, Sisters: Loretta Henderson and Deborah Wooley; Brothers: Jackie Amaker, Wayne Amaker (Sonya), Charles H. Amaker; stepchildren, Donna Amaker, Carol Jones, Deborah Moody, Darlene Hawkins, Jessica Phillips and Cynthia Phillips, Daughter in-law Blanche Morton, 8 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren. and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
The Homegoing services will be Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Matthews United Holy Church, Bluefield, WV at 11:00 am. The viewing will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service. Elder Jerome Price and Bishop Maurice Tucker will officiate. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family is in the care of A.P. McConnell Funeral Home.
