Luther Lee Martin, Jr. (June), age 84, of Bluefield, W.Va., departed this life Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 11, 1926 in Freeman, W.Va. and attended McDowell County Schools. He was the son of the late Luther Lee Martin, Sr. and Mary L. (Monroe) Martin. He was a retired coal miner of U.S. Steel and formally a member of Jones Chapel Church where he served on the Deacon Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy L. Martin; and three sisters, Mary L. Sims, Odessa Bennett and Catherine M. Swain. Those who are left to cherish his memories include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Mrs. Katherine S. Martin; one sister, Bertha Dell of Columbus, Ohio; his oldest child, Phyllis Penn-Williams (Mitchell) of Greensboro; his eldest son, Jerry Martin (Judith) of Sandford, Fla., Donald Martin (Macie) of Charlotte, N.C., Fredrick Martin (Rebecca) of Bluefield, W.Va., Kent Martin of Durham, Stanley D. Martin (Ann) of Greensboro, N.C., Cortez Martin (Vanessa) of Greensboro, N.C., Twila Belcher-Mills (Michael) of Grover, N.C. and Adrian (A.J.) Martin of Bluefield, W.Va. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church, 104 Park Street, Bluefield, W.Va.
