BLUEFIELD - Junior Don "J.D." Rhodes, 84, of 148 Yarrow St. in Bluefield (Green Valley) died Friday, February 6, 2015, at his residence. Born September 14, 1930 in North Wilkesboro, NC he was the son of the late Flay Eugene Rhodes and Myrl Walker Rhodes White. J.D. was a retired tool and die maker with Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Grand Blanc, MI with over thirty years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War where he was a Prisoner of War for six months before escaping, and was a decorated hero with seven Purple Hearts. J. D. was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union serving as Chairman of the Shop Committee for nine years (3 terms), a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He attended the Greenview United Methodist Church in Green Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ann Blackburn Rhodes; two sisters, Maxie McClary and Virginia Pearson; and one brother, Bobby Rhodes. Survivors include one daughter, Victoria Rhodes of Bluefield; one son, Rodney Rhodes of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Shawn Ann Bidleman, John Dereck Rhodes, Amy Adell Olwine, Victor Antonio Cosico, Ronnie Clemente Caburian, Travis Steven Rhodes, Nicole Rene Rhodes; ten great-grandchildren, Michael Lee Baker, Timmy Olwine, Joshua Lee McComb, Darrien Olwine, Aaron Lotd'e Cosico, Lucius Cosico, Cadence Cosico, Gracelynn Vincent, Kinley Rhodes, and Addilyn Vincent; one brother, Paul Rhodes and his wife Kathy of Clio, MI. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Rick Chester officiating. The West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Thursday. In keeping with J.D.'s wishes his body will be cremated following the service.
