NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Juanita Sparks Abel, age 84, of the Dry Fork community of North Tazewell, VA entered peaceful rest on March 6, 2015. Born June 27, 1930 in Tazewell County, VA she was a daughter of the late Walter T. and Lydia Compton Sparks. Her life was marked by her dedication to her family. From the mountaintop on which she will be laid, she spent her life teaching, helping, and enriching the lives of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Milton Abel; one sister, Geneva White; four brothers, Whitten Sparks, Joe Sparks, Ted Sparks, and Dallas Sparks; five half-brothers, Arbett Sparks, George Sparks, Johnny Sparks, Ulysses Sparks and Arthur Sparks, and one great granddaughter, Mackenzie Gibson. Those who remain to carry her spirit and cherish her memory are her eight children, Virginia Owens and husband, Larry, Fred Abel, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Linda Olinger and husband, Robert, Marie Gross and husband, James, Doug Abel and wife, Diane, Michael Abel and wife, Tina, Patricia Moore and husband, Kerry, and Mark Abel and wife, Lynn. Also loved and cherished by Juanita are her 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, March 9, 2015 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with Pastors Doug Abel, Tony Shrader and Dale Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at the Sparks Family Cemetery at North Tazewell, VA. Grandsons, great-grandsons, and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
