Joyce Hill Pratt, a 20-year resident of Roanoke and most recently of Salem, Va., passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at 80 years young. She was surrounded by family and great friends who will always cherish the last moments spent with her.

Born in Princeton, W.Va., to Raymond M. and Mae Miles Hill, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip Pratt; and beloved older sister, Billie Rae Hill.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Gerri Hill of Salem; cousins, Vickey L. and Bob French and Pat Moody, all of Roanoke; cousin and get it done gal, Jeanie Pickwick and husband, Rick, of Bradenton, Fla.; very special friends, Carole Berman and Mary Cay Ribar; and a host of other friends and acquaintances charmed by her wit and great sense of humor.

Joyce received a BS in Education from Concord University in 1959 and taught English at both Northfork and Spanishburg High Schools in West Virginia. In 1966 she received her MA in Guidance and Counseling from West Virginia University that led to a career as a counselor in the Montgomery County Public School system in Maryland. Upon her retirement in 1998 from Blair High School, Joyce moved to Roanoke, Va., to be closer to her sisters.

She attended Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton and talked fondly of Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton, the church of her youth and young adult life.

Joyce's wishes included a simple graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va., at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, with interment to follow alongside Phil.

In lieu of flowers and as a memorial tribute, Gerri and the family would encourage time spent with loved ones and friends reminiscing about our dear Joyce.
