BASTIAN, Va.— John Durward Blessing, age 84, of Bastian, VA passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016.

He was born November 14, 1931 in Bland County, the son of the late Robert and Macie Kidd Blessing. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerrold Blessing.

John attended Green Valley Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Harriett Neel Blessing; daughter, Tina and George Balas of Bastian, VA; son, John and Jane Blessing of Bastian, VA; six grandchildren, Misty Raines, Christina Spence, Richard Balas, Braden Blessing, Zackery Blessing and Trey Atkins; eight great grandchildren, Abigale Atkins, Cameron Blessing, Kiera Finch, Natalee Spence, Harper Spence, William Raines, Samuel Raines and Cora Raines;

special nephew and family, Jerry and Debbie Blessing of Bastian, VA and their children, Josh, Cody and Jessie.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Bogle Cemetery with the Reverend Buddy Herald and Pastor Paul Looney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bland Mission.
