John Bernard (JB) Shupe, 77, of Boissevain, VA passed away at his home on December 7, 2022.

JB was born February 7, 1945 in Boissevain, VA to parents Hamilton Jerome (Joe) Shupe and Annie Louise Sayers Shupe.

JB served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 and was stationed in Korea for most of his military career. He retired from Frontier Telecommunications in 2002 after working in telecommunications for 40 years. He was a dedicated and hard- working employee who was well loved by his coworkers. JB was an avid hunter and fisherman his whole life and enjoyed anything outdoors. He also played softball for years and took up golfing after his retirement.

JB was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Agnes Payne and Judy Tuttle, 1 brother Jerry Shupe, and several nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years Edna Taylor Shupe of Boissevain, VA, children, Lisa Shupe Connolly of Creve Coeur, IL, Amy Shupe of Pocahontas, VA, John Shupe II of North Tazewell, VA, 4 granddaughters, Anna Connolly, Bridgette Connolly, Destinee Coleman, Emily Shupe, special grandson-in-law Dylan Coleman, 2 great grandsons Carter Ray and Asher Jay Coleman. JB also left behind 3 brothers Billy Joe (Tater) Shupe, Barnes Allen (Duck) Shupe, and Hamilton (John D) Shupe; 2 sisters Sally Lambert and Nora Crist and numerous nieces and nephews.

JB was an extremely friendly person and would speak to everyone. He never met a stranger. He was a loyal and faithful friend to many in the Boissevain, Pocahontas, Abbs Valley area. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and called him friend.

Visitation will be Sunday December 11, 2022 from 6 to 8pm at the Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, VA. Funeral services will be held Monday December 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, VA with Steven Mahaffey officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard.
