OAKWOOD, Va. — Joann C. Horton Presley, 83 years of age of Oakwood, VA, went to her Heavenly Home, Thursday, December 8, 2016 in Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem, VA. Born August 14, 1933 in Bandy, VA, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Robert and Sarah Mae Whitaker Horton.

Joann attended Bluefield Business College, retired from Buchanan County School System having worked at Garden Elementary School as secretary. She was a member of Mt Herman Methodist Church and had attended Oakwood Presbyterian Church for over thirty-five years, loved spending time with her grandson Drake. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell V. Presley, two step-sisters and one step-brother.

Survivors include her daughter Melinda Gibbs and husband George of Salem, VA; son Russell Vern Presley, II and wife Anita of Keen Mountain, VA; grandson Kenton Drake Presley of Keen Mountain, VA; special cousin Sara Whited and special friend Marilyn Osborne.

Funeral service for Joann C. Horton Presley will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Phillis Canter and Pastor Mark Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Active pallbearers will be Jim Boyd, Larry Boyd, Drake Boggs, Lewis Addison, Jessie Elswick and Phillip Peterson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Erik Denver, Brian Denver, Oakley Woods, Paul Jackson and Preston Wimmer.

The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Saturday after 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 3:00 p.m.
