Bluefield, VA - Joan Sperry Harman, 93, of Bluefield VA, died August 18, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born February 3, 1932, in Hemphill, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Iaeger Sperry and Cynthia Cardea Earnest.

She was a graduate of Welch High School where she was in the band and a majorette.

In later years known as "Jomama," Jo married the love of her life, Harry Harman on October 15, 1947. To watch them dance was to witness love and aliveness, fun and joy.

She was immensely creative and that creativity took many forms: refinishing furniture, painting, making grapevine wreaths, writing and reciting humorous verses... whatever inspired her interest at the time. Jo took great pleasure in making people laugh, and by cooking fabulous food for family, friends and neighbors. She cherished her beautiful backyard garden, but her greatest love and attention was reserved for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Harry Edward Harman.

Survivors include son, Greg Harman and daughter-in-law, Trish Jones; daughters, Robin Harman and Jill Harman and son-in-law, Bill Peery; granddaughter Casi Noble and grandson-in-law Cesar Gandara and great-grandchildren, Lorenzo and Layla Gandara.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for immediate family members.
