James Elbert Pitzer


James Elbert Pitzer, 83 of Pitzer Lane, Princeton, died Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born February 12, 1936 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Jennings and Thelma Meadows Pitzer.
James was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
James was a long-time member of the Rogers Street Community Church. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hollister DD788 from 1955 to 1959. James retired from the railroad.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 1st wife of 52 years, Leona Jane Hawks Pitzer, one sister, three brothers and a step-son.
Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Mary Thornhill Pitzer. Four children, Starlene Thompson and husband Gary; Tony Pitzer and wife Christina both of Princeton; Troy Pitzer and wife Stephanie; and Loretta Wyatt and husband Roger both of Lerona. Five step-daughters, Regina, Karen, Melissa, Crystal and Debbie. One step-son, Freddy. Twelve grandchildren. Fifteen great-grandchildren. Several step-grandchildren. One brother, Paul Pitzer and wife Margaret. Several nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Hospice Compassus.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 13, 2019, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Gene Pennington and Steve Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow in Pitzer Cemetery, Clover Dew Dairy Road, Princeton.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.
