Ida Stallings Abbott, age 89 of Tazewell, VA formerly of Rocky Mount, NC died Monday, June 16, 2014, peacefully at her home. Born April 8, 1925 in Rocky Mount, NC, Ida was one of seven children born to George and Annie Maude Lancaster Stallings. Ida was a member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC until moving to Tazewell, VA where she attended Tazewell Baptist Church and most recently Bundy's Chapel. She loved attending church and singing in the choir at West Edgecombe. She had many lifelong friends there and missed them when she moved to Virginia. Ida soon made many friends at Tazewell Baptist and Bundy's Chapel and missed being with them when she was no longer able to attend. She was forever grateful to her deacon Bernard Pauley from Tazewell Baptist for his love and kindness toward her. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings; her husband, Thomas Stonewall Abbott, Jr.; her son, George Thomas Abbott and grandson, William Bennett Altizer. She will be truly missed by her daughter, Dianne Altizer and husband, Billy of Tazewell, VA; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Mullins and husband, Ronnie of Tazewell, VA; her grandson, Philip Altizer of Charlotte NC; her great grandchildren, Nathan Mullins, Kate Mullins, and William "Will" Altizer; her great great grandchild, Alayah Marie Houchins; her nephew, Keith Abbott of Rocky Mount, NC; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Pastors J.C. Steele, Lee Blackburn and David Taylor officiating. After the service, Ida will be taken to Rocky Mount, NC where graveside services in the Stallings Family Cemetery will be held at 1 PM Friday, June 20, 2014. She will be laid to rest where her husband, son and other family members are buried. In lieu of flowers, it was Ida's request that memorial donations be directed to Tazewell Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 592, Tazewell, VA 24651, Baptist Children's Home, 860 Mt.
