Glenn Wayne Buchanan, age 94, of Bluefield, VA, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 21, 2024.

He was born on April 11, 1930, in Gratton, VA, to the late William Elbert Buchanan and Josie Cox Buchanan.

Glenn was a graduate of Tazewell High School and McClain's Business College. He obtained his B.S. in Business from Bluefield State College and became a Certified Public Accountant.

He was employed his entire career of 37 years with Sovereign Coal Group which included Ashland Mining, Harmon Mining and Majestic Colleries.

Upon retirement he opened his own accounting practice and operated it on a part time basis for an additional 20 years.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed people, particularly his golf buddies.

He was a member of Virginia Avenue Methodist Church, a man of strong faith and love for his family and friends. Nothing brought him greater joy than visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was active in the Bluefield WV Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a Mason and member of Harmon Lodge #222. He was also active in numerous volunteer organizations throughout the community during his lifetime.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Joyce Gregory Buchanan.

Glenn is survived by his brother Frank E. Buchanan of Bristol, VA; children, Keith Buchanan and wife Yvette of Bluefield, VA, Barbara Buchanan and Mike Onifer of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren, David Buchanan and wife Catherine of Carrollton, GA, Dr. Suzanne Earehart and husband Nick of Greer, SC; great-grandchildren, Madison Buchanan, Claire Buchanan, Graham Buchanan, Charlotte Buchanan, Beckett Earehart and Baylor Earehart. Two step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, 1901 Virginia Ave., Bluefield, VA 24605; Bluefield Union Mission, PO Box 4056, Bluefield, WV 24701; or the charity of your choice.

A service to celebrate the life of Glenn Buchanan will be held on Saturday January 4, 2025, at 12:30 pm at Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 until the time of service on Saturday. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.
