Bluefield, VA - George Thomas Smith, 97, of Bluefield, Virginia, formerly of Princeton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Born December 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Ernest B. Smith and Viola Sparks Smith.

George retired from Overnight Transportation and Garst Truck Line of Bluefield, Virginia. After retirement, he enjoyed flea markets. He was a former active member of First Baptist Church in Princeton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie L. Smith; second wife, Phyllis D. Smith; one son, Harry Lee Smith; three daughters, Brenda Thompson, Betty Joan Douglas and Beverly Patty Wallace; four brothers, Raymond, Lawrence, Edward and Roy Lee; five sisters, Sylvia, Lillian, Edith, Shirley and Elsie; and four grandchildren, Author Douglas, Jeremy Wallace, Paula Woody Booth and Tonia Rae Chancey; and one great grandson, Billie Cregger.

Survivors include one son, George T. Smith, Jr. and wife Martha of Bluefield, VA; one daughter, Peggy Wright of Bluefield; one brother, Ernest Smith; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Don Whitt officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
