MAXIE, Va. -- George Hamilton Fletcher, Jr., 80 years of age of Maxie, VA, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness.
Born January 28, 1936, in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late George Fletcher Sr. and Elizabeth (Ward) Fletcher. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member and deacon at Harman Memorial Baptist Church. George served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion.
He was an avid outdoorsman and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a lifelong fan of the Grundy Wrestling Team and even coached for the Harman Tigers, a little league wrestling team. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a coal miner and sold mining supplies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58-years, Glorianna Landreth Fletcher; 1-Son: George Steven Fletcher; 5-Brothers: Neil, Kenneth, Ed, Elmer and Allen Fletcher; 3-Sisters: Oma Marrs, Zola Church and Lena Baldwin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Michael (Tammy) Fletcher, Maxie, VA; his daughters: Donna (David) Looney, Breaks, VA, Dianna (McDonald) Hagy, Vansant, VA; 1-Sister: Lilly Matheny, Bogalusa, LA; 1-Brother-in-Law: Frankie (Gaye) Landreth, Maxie, VA. Also, survived by 12-Grandchildren and 5-Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services for George Hamilton Flether, Jr. will be conducted Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Harman Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Shea Shrader officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain Rest Mausoleum at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA with military rites by members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Anthony Scott, Derek Fletcher, Marc Hagy, Chase Looney, Davey Looney and Mike Price.
