George A. Abbatello, 88, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
George retired from Norfolk Southern with 33 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.
George was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Abbatello; second wife, Verna C. Abbatello; parents, Joseph and Rose Marie Abbatello; sisters, Mary Collins, Carmella Dillow; brother, Dominic Abbatello and half-sister, Minnie Thompson.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Barbara Abbatello, John and Kara Abbatello; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Culicerto; grandchildren, Bruce, Brandon, Jonathan, Nathan Abbatello, Tyler and Skyler Henderson, Matt and Will Culicerto; great-grandchildren, Madden and Brody Abbatello; brother, Joe Abbatello and his wife, Donna; special family friend, Monica Waid and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
