Bluefield - Gary "Gee" Lee Carter passed peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born April 1, 1939, in Bluefield, Virginia, Gary was the son of James and Ruby Carter and grew up on a dairy farm. He was a graduate of the Graham High School Class of 1957 and remained a lifelong loyal G-Man.

On June 10, 1958, he married his devoted wife, Barbara Pauley, beginning a seven-decade partnership. Early in their marriage, Gary and Barbara worked together as butchers at Deskin's Grocery in Bluefield, WV. Gary later pursued a career as a train engineer with Norfolk Southern, a position that allowed Barbara to work from home while raising their seven children. Gary retired from Norfolk Southern in 2001 as a member of the Brotherhood of Automotive Engineers Union.

Gary was an avid sports fan, following everything from local to professional teams, and regularly trouncing his family and friends in bracket competitions.

Gary will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his devotion to his family, and the quiet determination with which he lived his life.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Carter; his brother, Randy Carter; and his two grandsons, Chase Miller and Alex Carter.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, Daughter Vicki Miller, Son-in-law Sonny, Son Bob "Bobby" Carter, Daughter in Law Robin, Daughter Carol Sue Carter, Son Paul Carter, Daughter-in-law Rose, Son Jonathan Carter, Daughter-in-Law Tina, Son Jeremy Carter, Daughter-in-Law Kelli, Daughter Jennifer Lambert, Son-in-Law Jamie, Sister Donna Sue Satterfield, Sister Janet Ford and her husband Louis, Sister Ina DeRochi, Sister Brenda "Kay" McLemore, and sister-in-law Mattie Carter; grandchildren: Zac, Luke, Paul Jr., Mia, Seth, Blake, and Kristin Carter; Jake, Alanah, and Stacy Miller; and Brandon Lambert; Great-Grandchildren: Liam, Finn, and Edyn Miller; and Rocket Carter. Pallbearers will be Timmy Carter, Zac Carter, Blake Carter, Seth Carter, Brandon Lambert, and Jake Miller.

A visitation will be held at Dudley Memorial Mortuary on Thursday, March 12th, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m... A funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Barry Wright at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13th, 2026, at Dudley Memorial Mortuary. Burial immediately following at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bower's Hospice in Gary's memory.
