Princeton - Frieda Mae Thornton, 92, of Princeton, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Born May 21, 1933 in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Richard Kelly Wooten and Sadie Lusk Wooten.
Mrs. Thornton was a 1950 graduate of Spanishburg High School and attended Concord College. She married and was a military bride for four years. Her two eldest children were born in Great Falls, Montana, then she moved to Fredericksburg, Maryland, where her other two children were born. There she worked as a bank teller and telephone operator.
After moving back to West Virginia, she worked at a shoe store in Hinton, eventually taking ownership with her husband. Later she worked at several retail stores in Princeton.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and cryptogram puzzles. She was an avid General Hospital viewer.
Frieda was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Richard Thornton in 2003; two brothers, Sonny Wooten and Dick Wooten; and one sister, Pat Fisher.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn Zamorski and husband Fred of Long Island, NY, Timothy Thornton and wife Janet of Princeton, Ted Douglas Thornton of Houston, TX and Teri Moore and husband Ed of Princeton; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and her furbaby granddog, Riley.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2025, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Friends attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
