ROCKY GAP, Va. — Fred Milton Abel, Jr., age 64 of Rocky Gap, VA died Monday, December 7, 2015 at his home. Born October 10, 1951 at Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Fred Milton Abel, Sr. and Juanita Sparks Abel. He was a US Army Veteran, a Special Forces Paratrooper serving 2 tours in Vietnam, and a member of the DAV. Fred was a gunsmith and a leather craftsman. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Davis Abel; sons, Fred Abel, III of Haysi, VA and Matthew Abel of Christiansburg, VA; stepsons, Wade Ferrell of Bluewell, WV and Scotty Ferrell of Granbury, TX; brothers, Doug Abel, Mark Abel, and Mike Abel; sisters, Linda Olinger, Virginia Owens, Marie Gross, and Patricia Moore; special grandson, Dakota Ferrell; grandchildren, Casey Abel, Cortney Abel, Shannon Abel, Fred Abel, IV, Seth Abel, Ginger Hilton, Jessica Lindsey, and Dustin Ferrell; special friends, Kim Matzel, PAC and Dr. Jonathan Yates of Bluefield Internal Medicine; and all his Rocky Gap friends. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, VA where services will be conducted at 2 PM with Pastor Doug Abel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by members of Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 and VA National Guard Honor Team of Gate City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
