Frances Smith Boone, 78, of Bluefield, VA passed away on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Born August 12th, 1944 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Hale Smith.

Fran grew up in Abbs Valley, VA and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1963. She worked a multitude of jobs throughout her life including Pocahontas Fuel Company, Bluefield Regional Medical Center, American LaFrance, and Charlatte of America. Fran was known for her nurturing and kind manner. She most enjoyed taking care of those she loved. She was affectionately known as Nanna, Nanny or Nanny Franny.

In her younger days Fran was an avid bowler and played in a competitive league with some of her dear friends. Fran also enjoyed playing Bingo and the occasional trip to the Casino. She loved to travel with her family, enjoying family Cruises and trips to the Beach. Summers were spent at Claytor Lake with her family and Hidden Valley Campground friends. Fran loved sports; you would often find her enjoying a College Football or Basketball game. She liked watching NFL games and was cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs only a few weeks before her passing.

Most of all, Fran loved her Family. She would go to the ends of the earth to care for her Children and Grand-Children. Fran traveled many roads cheering on the Pocahontas Indians when her Children were younger. That support continued on with her Grand-Children. Fran loved Graham Basketball and rarely missed a game.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patti Reid and brother-n-law, Art Powers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years Clarence "Big Foot" Boone, son Rick Murphy and wife Kendra, daughter Kathi Mustard and husband Mark. Grandchildren, Tabitha Vaughn and husband Tony, Chance Dawson, Kara Murphy, and Kyler Murphy. Great Grandchildren, Tristan Vaughn and Tyson Vaughn. Sister, Geraldine "Mic" Powers and Brother, Russel Smith and wife Jan. Fran also leaves behind a special Niece who was like a daughter, Cindy Moore as well as her best friend of more than 70 years, Alice Harman. She also leaves behind a lifetime friend and sister-n-law, Barbara Sue Lasalla.

In keeping with her wishes Fran will be cremated. Fran was also insistent that she did not want a traditional Funeral Service therefore her family will host a Celebration of her Life at Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, VA on Wednesday, February 1st from 5PM until 8PM. The Family will receive visitors at 5:00. At 7:00 precious Memories of Fran's life will be shared. Fran's Family invites anyone who would like to share their Memories of Fran to join them.
