There comes a time in each of our lives that the Lord bids us to come home. This time came on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 for our dear Elizabeth Moore Hiatt, of Welch, WV.

She was born on February 4, 1926 at Hemphill, WV and was one of two children born to the late Clara Lavis Moore and Edward Moore. Her sibling a brother, Jimmy Rew Moore, preceded her in death.

Elizabeth spent her childhood in Hemphill, WV and often reminisced about the times that she spent with her late Granny and Grandpa Lavis (Haddie Hardwich Lavis and Edward Lavis). Elizabeth married the love of her life, Kenneth Lee Hiatt on May 14, 1951 and he preceded her in death. They shared the love of motorcycles. Kenneth rode an Indian Chief with Elizabeth trailing closely behind him on her Indian Scout. Her face would glow as she often recalled the freedom and happiness they felt while riding them on a warm summer day.

Elizabeth worked in the County Clerk and Assessor's office at the McDowell County Court House in Welch, WV, and retired after 40 years of service. In addition to a career Elizabeth was very active in her community. She was a member of the Women's Club for 25 years. She became the Chairperson for the Humane Society membership drive in 1974 and discovered her love for animals and remained an advocate for animal rights throughout her lifetime. This passion for abandoned animals was apparent as she rescued and took into her care a total of 62 cats and 2 dogs fostering them and providing them with a safe, loving home. She was a member of the Hemphill Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. Elizabeth was a world traveler and did so extensively between the years of 1962 to 1980. Her husband, Kenneth was an airplane pilot and they traveled to various destinations. She spent time with her English uncles, aunts and cousins while touring through the United Kingdom visiting the towns of Gwent, Wales, and London. Her ventures also took her to Hawaii, in addition to many trips to coastal North Carolina. In addition to a cross country driving tour which took them through the western states and the Navaho Indian Reservation.

Those left to cherish her memory include a nephew, James Milverton Moore and his wife Katherine and family of Myakka City, Florida, a Sister-in-law, Eleanor Moore of Princeton, WV, Multiple Cousins in Sophia, WV including, Sondra and Jesse Ray, William Lavis, William and Kimberly Tingler, Stephen and Michelle Ray, Brian and Taylor Sexton, Tanner Ray, Jeremiah Spicer, and Jeremiah Chase Spicer. Other cousins living out of state include: Ramona Lawson and family, the Fackrell family, Alice Jean Poole, Beverly Darnell, and Nesta Hardwich of Gwent South Wales, United Kingdom.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 12 Noon from the Fanning Funeral Home in Welch, WV with the Pastor Martin West officiating; Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery at Bluewell, WV where she will be laid to rest by her loving husband's side. Friends may call one hour Before the service. Cousins, Jesse Ray, Stephen Ray, Tanner Ray, Jeremiah Spicer, Chase Spicer, and William Tingler, will serve as Pallbearers. The flower attendants will be Kimberly Tingler, Michelle Ray, and Taylor Sexton. Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced.
