Edward Lake "E.L." Wimmer, 85, of Moonglow Drive, Lerona, died peacefully late Thursday night, Aug. 9, 2012 at his son's home. Born Jan. 18, 1927, at Black Oak Hollow near Princeton, he was the son of the late Sidney H. Wimmer and Eva Jane Morehead Wimmer. E. L. was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He had spent more than 37 years of his life in and around the coal industry, having retired as a heavy equipment operator for Perry-Hylton Coal Company, Beckley, W.Va. and was a member of the UMWA. E.L. was a member of Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. While his health permitted, he was a member of the Glory Bound Singers, having sung in area churches, family reunions and camp meetings, not only did he love good gospel music, he truly love going to church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the his love of his life, his wife, Bertie Lou Alvis Wimmer, along with four brothers; Lawrence, Bernard, Robert and Harlan Wimmer and two sisters; Evelyn Smith and Ruth Sigmon. Survivors include his two sons and their spouses, Edward Lee and Phyllis Wimmer of Lerona, Timothy Wayne and Beulah Wimmer of Princeton; two grandchildren, Jason Lee Crawford and Anita Jo Tatum; three great-grandchildren, London Marie Tatum, Ruby Nicole Tatum, and Audrianna Ashley Crawford; three sisters, Virginia Sargent of Glenwood, Berneice Cunningham of Speedway, Betty Jo Snider and husband, Mason, of Speedway; and a host of nieces and nephews; his special caregivers, Sonya Washington Cooper, who gave all of her love she had to him each day, and Amy Phillips. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, Aug., 13, 2012 from Lerona United Methodist Church with Pastor Rick Chester officiating. Burial will follow in Athens Cemetery in Athens. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton and one hour prior to services at the church.
