WELCH - Deacon Turhan E. Carter age 57, who resided at 480 Riverside Drive in Welch, WV, and departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Welch Community Hospital.
He was born July 14, 1959 in Welch and the son of the late Senora (Hamilton) and Robert E. Carter Sr. After completing his education in New York, he returned to Welch and was a former employee at Goodson's Supermarket. For the past 12 years, he was employed at Pinnacle Mining in Pineville, as a belt man. He was a faithful member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch, where he served as a Deacon and Church treasurer. He enjoyed sports and was an avid member of the gym.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Jr., one sister, Nina Carter Edmond (who passed away on November 5, 2016) and an aunt, Cleo Smith, who helped raise him.
Survivors include his sons, Donelle D. Padgett of Charleston, WV and Andre' D. Smith of Welch and a daughter, Karla D. Alexander of Bluefield, WV; his siblings: Beverly A. Finney of Welch, Anthony W. (Cathy) Carter of Columbus, OH, Ninette (James) Ward of Roderfield, WV, Delphine (Roger) Henry of Columbus; 10 grandchildren: Diamond, Jazmine, Angel, Dalmayia, Cameron, Nazir, Nasiahe, Tia, Elijah and Maliyah; one uncle James P. (Gladys) Hamilton of Oxon Hill, MD; a special, longtime friend, Celestine Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; his Church family and friends.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 135 Court Street Welch, WV, with the Reverends: George Masterson, Nathaniel Burroughs and William Spencer, officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell.
Friends will serve as both pallbearers and flowerbearers.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until time of Service on Friday, at the Church.
