David W. "Red" Obituary

The angel in charge of Heaven's music came before the Lord expressing concern about a guitar chord he could not play. The Lord smiled and said "This chord you speak of can only be played by the one I have called to play it." The angel looked relieved and replied "Yes Lord, your will be done." The Lord then called his faithful servant by name and placed in his hands a golden guitar. And Daddy began to play... OAKVALE - David W. "Red" Lester, 65, of Cheesy Creek Road, Oakvale died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. Born March 3, 1949 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Cecil Boyd Lester and Willie Belle Wall Lester. David was a 1967 graduate of Oakvale High School and of the Church of Christ faith. He was a retired electrician with Joy-Global in Bluefield, VA and had been a lifelong resident of this area. David was a gun smith, an avid hunter and fisherman, and had tremendous love of a guitar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Darrel Lester; and one infant sister, Sylvia Darlene Lester. Survivors include his wife of forty two years, Darla Dean Brinkley Lester; one daughter, Davina Clyburn and husband Shannon of Cheesy Creek Road; one son, Victor Lester of the home; one grandson, Jace Barker Clyburn; one sister, Linda Lester Beggs and husband, Charlie of Church Hill, TN; and two loyal canine companions, Peanuts and Prissy. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 PM, Friday, September 12, 2014 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale with Pastor Roger Hatfield officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until the service hour on Friday. Interment will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Hill Cemetery at Cheesy Creek. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the interment are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:00 AM on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 162 Court St., Charleston, WV 25301. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale is serving the Lester family.
