David Wayne Elswick
David Wayne Elswick, age 53, of Raven, VA passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was born September 27, 1966 in Richlands, VA. He was a retired supervisor from Knox Creek Coal Company and worked with the Mine Rescue Team. Many of his co-workers knew him as "DeeWee".
He loved coaching, watching and playing all sports. He was a member and servant at City on a Hill Church. He devoted a lot of time volunteering at his church and at the Raven Theatre. He called City on a Hill his "happy place." David had many friends. He loved his family and especially his grandbabies.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly Jake and Margaret Lowe Elswick; one sister, Cheryl Noel; brothers-in-law, Herbie Noel and Jack Tuggle; sister-in-law, Debbie Elswick.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 ½ years, Melissa Elswick; one son, Cody Ray Elswick and wife Kayla; one daughter, Amanda Chylette Elswick Hunsucker and husband Matt; grandchildren, Taylin Elswick, Lana Elswick, and Vada Hunsucker; four sisters, Betty Reedy and husband Kermit, Jean Tuggle, Alice Cordle and husband Ronnie, and Kay Monk and husband Steve; two brothers, Steve Elswick, Bobby Elswick and wife Alice; many nieces and nephews; mother and father-in-law, Denny and Janice Lawson; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Light and husband Adam, Sharon Cook and husband Yancey.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 21st at City on A Hill, 7607 Pounding Mill Branch Road, Tazewell, VA 24651.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. at City on A Hill Church with Pastor Barry Absher officiating. Committal Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mausoleum 4 in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be nephews and special friends, Johnny Lester and Richard Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of City on A Hill Church. Those wishing to attend the Committal Service please meet at Mausoleum 4.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richlands Youth Basketball League, P O Box 1025, Richlands, VA 24641.
