Clifton Carl Burnette Obituary

Tazewell, VA - With deep sadness but steadfast faith, we announce that Clifton Carl Burnette, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2026. While his passing leaves a profound emptiness, we take comfort in knowing that Carl now abides in the everlasting peace of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army for 14 years, living out his values of duty, honor, and perseverance. Following his military service, he built a remarkable 30+ year career with Norfolk and Southern Railroad, where he was admired for his hard work and reliability.

Carl was a devoted member of Kendricks Creek United Methodist Church, where his love for the Lord was evident in his service, generosity, and gentle spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton James Burnette and Virginia Mae Cooper Burnette, and his sisters, Sylvia Renee Akers and Rita Kay Jessee.

Carl is survived by his devoted wife and soulmate of 25 years, Linda Hawks Burnette; his loving children, Regina Lane (Gary) of Kingsport, TN, Cindy Kelly (Kevin) of Johnson City, TN, Clifton Carl Burnette, Jr. (Amy) of Beaver, WV, James Mitchell Burnette of Salem, VA, Justin Tyler Burnette of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ethan Christian Burnette (Courtney) of Salem, VA; and his dear sister, Connie Burnette of Princeton, WV.

He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Carla Richards (Andy), TJ Booher (Chelsea), Arron Campbell, Christopher Campbell (Aleesa), Abby Lester (Alan), Michael Stimson (Meredith), Alexis Burnette, Madison Burnette, and Sabrina Burnette; as well as nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Virginia, at a later date. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for Carl's faith filled life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kendricks Creek United Methodist Church, 1000 Kendrick Creek Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663, a place that held a special place in Carl's heart.

Carl's faith, kindness, and love will live on through all who were blessed to know him. May his soul rest in the eternal peace of Christ, and may his memory be a lasting blessing to all.
