Charlotte Boyd Compton, surrounded by her children, went to her heavenly home with a beautiful smile on her face on Sunday, April 23rd. She was born October 3, 1930, in Raven, Virginia, where she grew up. Charlotte has spent the last 41 years of her life in Longview, Texas, which she loved. However, she always considered Virginia home.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years James Compton, parents Den and Maude Boyd, her sister Doris Ann Whitt, Daughter-in-Law Cathy Compton, Son-in-Law John Dowden and grandson Jason Compton.

She is survived by her sons Gary (Mary) Compton of Henderson, KY and Randy Compton of Hymera, IN; daughter Terry Dowden of Longview, TX; her brothers Jim (Sylvia) Boyd and Den Boyd; grandchildren Natalie Hollis, Jeff Shreve, Adam Hoskins, Kyle (Sierra) Compton, JT (Kimberly) Compton, Kim Compton, Addie (Steve) Butts, Lindsay (Brian) Burkart, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild along with many special nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge her wonderful neighbors Steve and Gloria Mallory for the time and attention they gave her, along with rides around town in their 2 seater convertible.

Mom, Grandma Charlotte, Memaw Farlotte, Aunt Charlotte, or just Charlotte was dearly loved by her family and all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She kept an immaculate home and lived to fulfill the needs of those she loved. There was never a hungry person in her household. Charlotte made her daughter lunch M-F every day since she began to work close by in 1983. Whenever birthdays came around or out of town family were visiting, she baked your favorite cake and at the holidays we loved her homemade cookies and fudge! With her caregiver's heart, she always stepped up for the family when someone was ill and needed assistance. Charlotte made many lifelong friends over the years through her morning coffee clique, pinochle club, newcomers club, and daily walks. She also took annual trips with her siblings for many years discovering the sights & history of our beautiful country. She loved her soap operas, DQ Blizzards, and most of all the Virginia Tech Hokies and Dallas Cowboys. She rarely missed a game. Charlotte was a long-term member of Mobberly Baptist Church.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the care and comfort provided by Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler, Texas.

Funeral Services for Charlotte Boyd Compton will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Dr. Marc Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Bradley Boyd, Brian Burkhart, J.T. Compton, Kyle Compton, Steve Butts, and Adam Hoskins. Honorary pallbearer will be Max Miller.

Friends may call 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
