Charles Samuel "Sam" Hale, 83 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born August 19, 1938 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Allen Fletcher Hale and Ethel Smith Hale.

Sam graduated from Grundy High School in 1957, where he was an accomplished football player. He went on to attend college at Lees-McRae where he continued his football career. Sam was a recipient of the Grundy Athletic Hall of Fame for his contribution to athletics.

Sam was a member of Sandy Valley Lodge #17 AFAM as well as the Scottish Rite Kazim Temple in Roanoke VA.

Sam was baptized at Grundy Church of Christ many years ago. He was a former owner/operator of Austin Sales, Inc. Sam enjoyed being with his friends while golfing and playing cards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kelli Jo Coleman Hale and son David Ross Hale.

He was also preceded by his siblings James Hale, Bethel Hale, Elmo Hale, Ronald Hale, Phyllis Campbell, and Hazel Clevinger.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Margaret Hale, grandchildren Charles Samuel Hale, II of Bristol, VA, Reece Hale Robertson and husband Brant of Grundy, VA; and sister Virgie Taylor of Illinois.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Elijah Hale, Elizabeth Hale, Walker Robertson, Warner Robertson, and Margot Mae Robertson.

Graveside Service for Charles Samuel "Sam" Hale will be held at the Clinch Valley Cemetery Mausoleum, Richlands, VA, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jody Breeding officiating.
