GRUNDY, Va. — Charles Melvin Keen, age 92, of Grundy, VA, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Buchanan General Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born May 26, 1924, in Honaker, VA, the son of the late Garland B. and Bertha M. Keen. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the HQ Company 116th Regiment 29th Division in France during the Normandy Conflict where he was wounded. After his return, he was employed by Buchanan-Williamson Supply Co. for 37-years. He was Vice President and General Manager at the time of his retirement. He served on the Town Council, was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 17 and past president of Grundy Kiwanis Club. He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.

He was a member of Grundy Baptist Church since 1946 where he was ordained as a deacon in 1957 and taught Sunday School for many years. At the time of his death, he was Deacon Emeritus of the Church. He also served as Trustee for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Carol Keen, Grundy, VA; 1-Son: Charles M. Keen Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL; 1-Daughter: Dr. Susan K. (Clayton) Stacy, Grundy, VA; 3-Grandchildren: Eric S. Keen and Heather Carol Keen both of Ft. Myers, FL, Jonathan Charles David Stacy, Grundy, VA; 2-Great-Grandsons: Brian Scott Keen, Gaithersburg, MD, and Dominik Schenek.

Survivors also include 1-Sister: Jean K. (Jack) Moore, Jacksonville, FL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Tivis, Dennis E., Hobert M., Clyde K., Garland B. Keen Jr. and James Robert Keen.

Memorial Services for CHARLES MELVIN KEEN will be conducted Friday, July 22, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Baptist Church with Minister Larry Burton officiating.

Friends may call at the Grundy Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 1:00 P.M.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class and the men of the Grundy Baptist Church.
