Welch - Charles John Honaker, 84, of Welch, West Virginia departed his earthly home December 25, 2022. He was born September 23, 1938, the son of the late Garland and Evelyn Warner Honaker. Charles was born in Kimball, West Virginia, and a lifelong resident of McDowell County, growing up in Carswell Hollow. He was a graduate of Welch High School, McDowell County Vocational School and served in the US Army in Europe during the Cold War. He attended the North Welch First Church of God.

Charles retired from U.S. Steel Corporation having worked at the Alpheus Coal Preparation Plant in Gary, West Virginia and Pinnacle Coal Preparation Plant in Pineville, West Virginia. Upon retirement, Charles assisted his wife in the operations of Flowers by Reba in Welch, and he became active in many veterans' organizations. He served terms as Commander, Treasurer and Adjutant of Post 8 in Welch, Forty & Eight Chef de Gar in Welch, VFW Commander 18413 of Kimball, and VFW 1144 Honor Guard of Iaeger, West Virginia. Charles enjoyed participating in and organizing the annual Welch Veteran's Day parade. Charles was a member of Masonic AF&FM Chapter 112 and the Welch Shrine Club. Charles and Reba were both active members of the Welch Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife Reba of 57 years marriage, parents, and an infant brother Garland Arthur Honaker, Jr.

Charles is survived by one son Darren Honaker (Patty) of Clifton Forge, Virginia; one daughter Joi Honaker Ogle (Jeremy) of Hillsville, Virginia: and five grandchildren Christopher Honaker of Fairfax, Virginia, Erik Honaker & Mason Honaker of Blacksburg, Virginia, Wyatt & Paige Ogle of Hillsville, Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins and extended family.

Funeral Services will be held at Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 12:00 PM - Noon, officiated by Pastor Scott Long and Darren Honaker. Visitation will be held the hour prior to services on Friday at 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia with Graveside Rites administered by his comrades and friends - VFW 1144 Honor Guard of Iaeger, West Virginia.
