POCAHONTAS, Va. - Bernard Lee Phipps, Jr., age 66, of Pocahontas, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 20, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.

Bernard was a coal miner by trade and later worked as a sub-contractor. He cared for and loved his family dearly and sought to live life to its fullest. Bernard recently accepted Christ as his Savior and made heaven his home.

Left to Cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Brenda Suzanne Phipps; his parents, Bernard Lee and Pearl Phipps, Sr.; daughters, Lisa Elizabeth and Doug Hyndrich, Rebecca Lee and Steve Asbury; Son, Bernard Lee Phipps, III and Terri Baldwin; Brothers, Terry Clay Phipps, Clifton Darrel and Yo Phipps; Sisters, Joan and Matthew Alford, Deborah and Frank Carl, Darlene and Kester Lane, Tammy and Les Slusher; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

A private memorial service to honor Bernard's life was held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Voice of Praise Worship Center in Bluewell, WV with the Reverend Frank Carl officiating. Interment was at the family cemetery.

Highland Bland Chapel served the Phipps family.
