Virginia (Ginny)'s Story
GOODVIEW, VA. — Virginia (Ginny) Grant Palmer, 91 of Goodview, Virginia formerly of Bluefield, WV passed away January 12, 2017 peacefully at home with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Otis T. Palmer and parents W. R. and Cora Grant also of Bluefield, WV. Ginny's parents were the founders of Grants Supermarkets. . She was also a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, Goodview, VA.
She is survived by her children, Lynn (Eddie) Zimmerman of Goodview, VA; David (France) Palmer of Washington, DC. Her grandchildren Katherine (Sam) Tutko of Renton, WA; Sarah (Nathan) Madsen of Lynchburg, VA and Todd Palmer; great grandson Wesley Palmer of Vinton, VA. She was the oldest of five children and also is survived by one sister, Juanita Grant of Danville, VA; three brothers, Wallace Grant, Warrenton, MO, Charles Grant (Fleeta), Camden, Delaware and Randle (Rosemary) Grant, Bluefield, WV. Ginny graduated from Beaver High School and later worked for Consolidated Bus Company before marrying Otis. In 1954, Ginny and Otis moved to Roanoke then to Moneta, Virginia, where they raised their family on a farm. Otis passed away in 1991, shortly thereafter, Ginny moved into the home of her daughter and family where she was residing at her passing.
Per Ginny's wishes, there will be a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flower please consider the children's ministries at Southside Baptist Church, 1060 Hidden Forest Dr. Goodview, VA 24095 or your favorite charity.
