Thurrell Odell's Story
Thurrell Odell "Possum" Wilcox, age 78 of North Tazewell, VA died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home, following a brief illness. Born July 12, 1939 in Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Robert and Helen Anderson Wilcox. He was a member of Linkous Chapel Freewill Baptist Church at Dry Fork.
Mr. Wilcox was a US Army Veteran, disabled coal miner, and member of the UMWA. He was a member and former officer of Tazewell County Horseman's Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Adrienne Wilcox; two brothers, Johnny and Donald Wilcox.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Wilcox; son, Robert Wilcox of North Tazewell, VA; daughter, April Houchins and husband, Lee of North Tazewell, VA; grandchildren, Maddison and Jalynn Wilcox; brother, James Wilcox of Norfolk, VA.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 PM Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM with Pastor Jonah Sparks officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA where military graveside rites will be conducted by Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, VA and Virginia National Guard Honor Team of Gate City, VA. Pallbearers are Chris Wilcox, Jamie Wilcox. Dennis Houchins, James Coffey, Dewey Brooks, and Andy Waddell. Adam Waddell will serve as honorary pallbearer.
