BLUEFIELD — Thomas D. McFarland, 65, of Bluefield, WV passed Friday, March 31, 2017. Born January 6, 1952 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas V. and Lois M. McFarland. He was of the Christian faith and previously attended Ada Chapel.
Tom served in the US Navy on the USS Oriskany CVA- 34, making 3 cruises off the Vietnam Coast. He worked as a welder for the US Navy and then followed the trade at Carter Machinery for many years. Tom enjoyed antique cars and vehicle restoration. A caring man always there when anyone needed a helping hand. He was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed summer cookouts and pool parties, at the fire pit surrounded by family and friends. He cherished his home with an open door for friends and family alike.
Those left to cherish his memory. One daughter, Rachel Remines and husband Gary of Bluefield, VA; one son, Jeremy Sweat and wife Dreama of Lexington, NC; one sister, Patricia Rexrode and husband Robert of Melbourne, FL; four grand children Grace and Sarah Remines, Christopher and Jacob Sweat; along with nieces and cousins. His special friend Rebecca Leedy of Bluefield, VA; mother of his children Marsha McFarland of Bluefield, WV. Additional close family include Shawn Blankenship and wife Darla of Bluefield, WV and Christy Richmond and daughters Alyssa and Caitlin.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Thomas D. McFarland will be held 1:00PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 with Pastor David Bailey officiating. Following the Memorial Service Tom will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Friends may gather with the family from 12:00PM until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
