Thelma D.'s Story
BRISTOL, Va. — Thelma D. "Judy" Burgess, age 94, of Bristol, VA passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at NHC of Bristol, VA. She was born in Tazewell Co, VA a daughter to the late Glenn and Ida Nell Hunt Harrison.
Judy moved to Bristol at age 16 and after going to Beauty School began working at Vanity Beauty Salon working as owner and operator until 1973 when she moved to Modern Hair Stylists and later to Mackie's Cuts and More until retiring at the age of 82. She was a member of State Street Methodist Church.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Walter Russell Burgess, sisters - Sylvia Phillips, Edith Foss, Sallie Graham, brothers - Elvis McKinley "Jack" Harrison and Moses Elbert Harrison.
Survivors include: Children - Donna Seering and husband Michael, Richard Woodburn, grandchildren - Lori Johnson and husband Jeff, Jr., Amy Kline, Eric Woodburn and wife Ericka, Hunter Woodburn, brother - Glenn O. Harrison, numerous very special nieces and nephews, special friend - Sara Odum and her special hairstyling coworkers - Pat, Lois, and Mackie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 5 pm in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Davis officiating. Committal services will be on Sunday at 3 pm at Mt. View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3-4:45 pm prior to the service.
